Land Rover Series For Sale

This 1958 Series 1 is from California and does not show the frame corrosion typical of these. It is basically an unmolested original that has lived a civilized life without undue abuse. The odometer shows 9988 miles, so who knows? The last registration expired in Dec., 1973. The owner was diseased, so the truck was purchased by a friend from the widow.

When I got it 6 or 7 years ago, it had not been run since ? I drained the gas from the tank. It did not smell bad, and drained readily. The fuel pump had been disconnected. These pumps can be rebuilt, a shop manual which includes rebuild instructions goes with the car. I connected a gallon gas can tied to the roof, and after cleaning the points and plugs, it ran. The acceleration pump does not squirt gas, it obviously needs a carb rebuild. The engine sounds good, has good oil pressure etc. The brakes work, the rear linings are cracked, a new pair are included. The body is straight for the most part, with some minor dents.

I purchased this truck because it would be an easy restoration, or could be tweaked mechanically and driven as-is. In that moment of antique vehicle lust and insanity, I forgot that I have no real interest in British vehicles, and even less in 4 wheel drive rigs. Since in Oregon it has been stored indoors.
